Jamie Bissett top Canadian at Grand Prix diving event

Jamie Bissett of Ottawa turned in Canada's best performance at the FINA Grand Prix diving event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, placing sixth in the men's 3-metre springboard competition.

Jamie Bissett of Ottawa turned in Canada's best performance at the FINA Grand Prix diving event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, placing sixth in the men's 3-metre springboard competition.

Bissett, a student at Purdue University in Indiana, returned to diving for Canada earlier this year after a three-year absence. Last year he reached the NCAA final and earned All-America honours in academics and sports.

China's Jianfeng Peng won the event, with Amsyar Ahmad of Malaysia second and Ukraine's Oleg Kolodiy, third.

Bissett was third in the preliminary round and sixth in the semi's before placing sixth in the final.

Edmonton's Cody Yano was 17th in the preliminaries.

In women's 10-metre tower, Ying Wang of China placed first, followed by Toulson Lois of Great Britain and China's Han Wang, third.

Celina Toth of St. Thomas, Ont. and Eloise Belanger of Montreal both reached the semi-finals and wound up eighth and 11th, respectively.
