Skips Howard, Martin to play for Grand Slam title
Glenn Howard and Kevin Martin will square off for the title at The Pomeroy Inn & Suites National in Dawson Creek, B.C., after each skip extended his unbeaten run at the Capital One Grand Slam event with a pair of playoff victories on Saturday.
The final is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
Howard reached the championship match by defeating Jeff Stoughton 8-3 in the quarter-finals, followed by an 8-3 win over Jim Cotter in the semifinal round.
Martin beat Niklas Edin 4-1 before knocking off Brad Gushue 4-3 in the semis.
Martin (7-0 for the tournament) is the reigning Olympic champion and the all-time leader with 17 Grand Slam titles. Howard (also 7-0) is a nine-time Slam winner and, like Martin, a former world champ.
The winner earns $20,000, while the runner-up takes home $11,000.
"It will be a fun battle as it always is," said Martin, who will have first-end hammer in the game. "There will be a ton of rocks in play. The first rock will be a guard and then away we go.
"Who knows who will win?"
