Skeleton star Montgomery to appear on Oprah
Olympic skeleton champion Jon Montgomery is looking to talk up Canada when he appears on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The segment, recorded in Whistler, is slated to air Friday.
"I tried to sell every bit of the Canadiana as I could," the 30-year-old from Russell, Man., told reporters Thursday about the segment with a show correspondent.
"I was certainly giving props to the good old folks north of the 49th Parallel and explaining to them why it is that I'm so proud to be from this greatest place on earth that we call home.
"I've always had that sense of pride but to have people say to me, 'I'm so proud to be Canadian as a result of what we realized in Whistler the other day' means the world to me.
"If I can do anything to encourage that belief and help foster that attitude, then my efforts in this sport will have been for a good reason."
