Colorado forward Darcy Tucker was suspended for one game by the NHL on Tuesday following a hit on an icing play during a game against Los Angeles.

The veteran forward was tangling with L.A.'s Matt Greene during an icing race Monday, and the Kings defenceman slammed heavily into the boards.

Tucker was slapped with a tripping penalty on the play and will forfeit $11,658.03 US in salary.

He'll miss Wednesday's game, the second half of a back-to-back against the Kings, as the two teams battle to make the playoffs. L.A. is in fifth place in the Western Conference, while the Avs are in seventh.

Tucker, 35, has seven goals and 13 assists this season.
