Tim Thomas is back in the National Hockey League, agreeing to a tryout deal with the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers announced the move Monday, and the two-time Vezina Trophy winner as the league's top netminder who helped Boston win the 2011 Stanley Cup, is expected to practise with the club for the first time on Tuesday.

Thomas sat out last season, a move that surprised many onlookers especially since he was still considered one of the league's best goalkeepers at the time.

The Panthers were playing a pre-season doubleheader against the Nashville Predators on Monday.

In parts of eight NHL seasons, Thomas has a 2.48 goals-against average, stopping just over 92 per cent of the shots he has faced.
