Hedman, the Tampa Bay Lightning's Norris Trophy-finalist defenceman, suffered an ugly cut during a game against Italy at the world championships on Friday.

A collision at centre ice caused his visor to break in half, slicing him right below and above his left eye. Any closer, Hedman would have been in a lot more trouble, but luckily his eyeball remain unscathed.

The laceration required four stitches, and Sweden went on to defeat Italy 8-1 moving up to second in Group A.
