Selke Trophy finalists: Bergeron, Datsyuk, Toews
Previous Frank J. Selke Trophy winners Pavel Datsyuk and Patrice Bergeron are in the running to win the award again, the NHL announced on Wednesday, with Jonathan Toews also a finalist.
Detroit Red Wings centre Datsyuk finished with a plus-21 rating, 55 per cent face-off success rate, and led the league with 56 takeaways. He won the Selke three straight seasons beginning in 2007-08.
Boston Bruins centre Bergeron won the award last season. This season, he led regular face-off men with a 62 per cent winning percentage and finished with a plus-24 rating.
Toews, captain and centre from the Chicago Blackhawks, is a finalist for the second time. He helped Chicago finish with the best record in the NHL, with a career-high plus-28 rating while converting over 59 per cent of face-offs.
The award has been given out since 1978 to the NHL's best defensive forward, as voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.
The winner will be announced next month during the Stanley Cup Final.
