Numbers game: NHL stars and the teams that dog them

We took a look at the best and worst stat lines of top forwards and goalies around the NHL. Sometimes, the teams that prove most troublesome are surprising.

Marc-Andre Fleury put forth a solid showing in net against the New York Islanders earlier this week, bouncing back against a team that had bedevilled him in recent games.

Fleury heading in had allowed 15 goals in the previous three appearances against the Islanders, in just 98 minutes of action. For that span, his was a 6.52 goals-against average, with a .776 save percentage.

It led to searching the stat lines of top players to see which teams they dip against.

As often is the case, the findings are subjective. Given the calibre of the players below, even the "bad" stat lines would be acceptable for a lot of other players.

We haven't included defenceman because even a blue-liner with offensive skills could still be playing well without putting up very many points. The same is true to a lesser extent for forwards, but the majority of the guys below are paid to produce.

These are regular season stats culled from team media guides, reflecting the beginning of the season and a healthy sample size as much as possible. Some teams don't provide official save percentages for goalies.
