Connor McDavid scores 1st NHL goal

Edmonton Oilers rookie Connor McDavid scored his first NHL goal on Tuesday to tie the score at two apiece against the Dallas Stars.

Rookie beats Dallas netminder Kari Lehtonen, ties game in 2nd period

The 2015 first overall pick joined Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky by scoring his first NHL goal in his third career game. 1:02

The wait is over for Connor McDavid, and perhaps all NHL fans, as the Edmonton Oilers rookie centre scored his first goal as a pro on Tuesday night.

McDavid found the net behind goalie Kari Lehtonen at the 12:18 mark of the second period to knot the score at two apiece on the road against the Dallas Stars.

Unfortunately, Jason Spezza played a big role in spoiling McDavid's special night by recording a hat trick in a 4-2 win for Dallas.

It's something that I'll remember for the rest of my life," McDavid said. "But like you said, obviously, not the way you want to end that game but pretty special to get it right away."
