NHL recognizes Quick, Hossa, Green
Kings goaltender cinches 1st star honours with 3 road victories
Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was named National Hockey League first star of the week Monday.
Quick recorded three consecutive road victories last week. He made 29 saves for a 1-0 shutout victory at Ottawa last Tuesday, stopped 41 shots in a 5-4 win over Washington on Thursday and made 25 saves in a 3-1 win over New Jersey on Saturday.
Detroit Red Wings right-winger Marian Hossa was named second star and Washington Capitals defenceman Mike Green was named third star.
Hossa recorded seven points (six goals, assist) to help the Red Wings post four consecutive victories last week. He closed the week by reaching the 30-goal mark for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.
Green, who was also named third star last week, had seven points (4-3) in three games.
His current six-game goal-scoring streak is the longest by an NHL defenceman since Ray Bourque's six-game streak for Boston in March 1984. Green is one shy of the league record for blue-liners set by the Bruins' Mike O'Connell in January 1984.
Green leads all defencemen this season with 19 goals and 47 points.
