Montreal Axion win women's hockey championship
Lisa-Marie Breton scored the only goal to lead the Montreal Axion to a 1-0 win over the Brampton Thunder in the National Women's Hockey League championship game on Saturday afternoon.
Breton broke the deadlock at 12:04 of the third period on a setup from Caroline Ouellette to silence the hometown Thunder fans in Brampton, Ont. Goalie Charline Labonte made 35 shots in the shutout victory.
It was the first championship for the Axion, who lost last year's championship game to the Toronto Aeros.
Labonte and Ouellette were key members of the Canadian women's gold-medal winning team at the Torino Olympics in February.
