Player was suspended by team after failing to report to AHL

It appears as though Sergei Kostitsyn's days with the Montreal Canadiens may be numbered.

Kostitsyn, 22, has been suspended by the Canadiens after refusing to report to the Hamilton Bulldogs, the club's AHL affiliate, and has reportedly requested a trade.

Kostitsyn was demoted to the Bulldogs on Sunday and Bob Gainey informed reporters Wednesday of the suspension.

Last season with the Canadiens, Kostitsyn scored eight goals and added 15 assists for 23 points in 56 games. His brother Andrei also plays for Montreal.

According to The Gazette, a Montreal daily, there is speculation that Kostitsyn is looking at playing in the Russian-based Kontinental Hockey League.
