FIRST STAR: Jaroslav Halak, G, Montreal

The Canadiens goalie stopped 46 shots in a 5-1 victory in Carolina  for his third win in a row. Halak now is 9-5-0 with a 2.57 goals against average and solid .923 save percentage.

SECOND STAR: Evgeni Malkin, C, Pittsburgh

With Hockey Hall of Famer Vladislav Tretiak, the former Soviet goalie now serving as Russia's Olympic general manager, looking on, Malkin had his fourth career hat trick to help the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Ottawa Senators 8-2 at home.

THIRD STAR: Zdeno Chara, D, Boston

Chara is well below the production he put up the past two seasons when he scored a combined 36 goals and 101 points, but the big defenceman checked in with a goal and an assist in the Bruins 6-4 win at home  against Atlanta.
