Hockey Night's 3 Stars

Defenceman Duncan Keith set up three goals for the Chicago Blackhawks in their 7-2 win in San Jose on Wednesday night. Chicago has won the first five games of its six-game road trip.

CBCSports.ca senior reporter Tim Wharnsby names the top performers in the NHL from Wednesday night.

FIRST STAR: Duncan Keith, D, Chicago Blackhawks

Keith set up three Blackhawks goals in their 7-2 win in San Jose. Thanks to the play of the Chicago defenceman and others, the Blackhawks are a perfect 4-0 on their annual circus trip — the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey circus is on a two-week stint at the United Center — with games on consecutive days with Anaheim and Los Angeles beginning on Friday afternoon.

SECOND STAR: Ondrej Pavelec, G, Atlanta Thrashers

The Thrashers' 22-year-old goalie continued his fine play with a 40-save performance, including 19 in the opening period, to earn his second shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory in Detroit.

THIRD STAR: Marian Hossa, F, Chicago Blackhawks

Hossa displayed little rink rust in his debut for the Blackhawks after off-season shoulder surgery. He scored twice, including one of Chicago's three short-handed goals as the Blackhawks extended their win streak to eight games.

Corrections

  • The original version of this story incorrectly stated that Chicago was 5-0 on their current road trip. They are, in fact, winners of four straight on the trip with two yet to play.
