FIRST STAR: Marc Savard, Boston

With his seven-year contract extension done, the 32-year-old Savard showed his former linemate, Phil Kessel, that Savard can fill the goal-scoring void created with Kessel’s departure. Savard scored three goals in the Bruins' 7-2 win against Kessel and the Maple Leafs on Saturday.

SECOND STAR: Erik Cole, Carolina

It’s been a struggle for Cole and his Hurricanes this season. But on Saturday afternoon Cole scored a hat trick to stem the bad times, for one game anyway, with a  5-3 victory at home against Vancouver.

THIRD STAR: Nicklas Backstrom, Washington

In the absence of Alex Ovechkin, who was serving the second game of his suspension, Backstrom stepped up with a five-point game (one goal, four assists) in the Capitals' 8-2 victory against Philadelphia on Saturday.
