Hockey Night's 3 Stars

Sidney Crosby has his groove back, moving into the league's top-10 point leaders with his fourth career hat trick and two assists in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 8-3 win against the New York Rangers on Saturday.

CBCSports.ca senior reporter Tim Wharnsby names the top performers in the NHL from the weekend.

FIRST STAR: Sidney Crosby, F, Pittsburgh

Sid the Kid has his groove back. After a slow start to the season, in which he was held pointless for five consecutive games in late October and early November, Crosby moved into the league's top-10 point leaders with his fourth career hat trick and two assists in the Penguins' 8-3 win  against the New York Rangers on Saturday.

SECOND STAR: Brian Rolston, F, New Jersey

Rolston's production has increased since he was put on a line with Patrik Elias. Rolston scored twice and set up two Elias goals for the injury depleted Devils in their impressive 6-1 victory against the New York Islanders on Saturday. The 36-year-old Rolston has four goals and six points in his past two games.

THIRD STAR: Jim Vandermeer, D, Phoenix

The 29-year-old stay-at-home defenceman from Carolina, Alta., scored twice, including in overtime, to lead his Coyotes to a 3-2 win in Anaheim  on Sunday. He now has 24 goals in 339 career games and five game-winners.
