Flyers trade for Stefan Legein
The Philadelphia Flyers acquired forward Stefan Legein from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday in exchange for defenceman Michael Ratchuk.
Legein, 20, was selected by Columbus in the second round (No. 37 overall) of the 2007 NHL entry draft. He recorded three points (two goals, one assist) in six games for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League this season.
After helping Canada win the 2008 world junior hockey championship and having a productive season in the Ontario Hockey League, Legein told the Blue Jackets just over a year ago that he was quitting hockey because he had lost the desire to play.
Legein later said he made a mistake and wanted to prove himself to the Blue Jackets organization. He will report to the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.
Ratchuk, 21, was selected by Philadelphia in the second round (No. 42 overall) of the 2006 draft.
He had one assist in five games with the Phantoms this season. Ratchuk will report to the Crunch.
