Devils to retire numbers of Stevens, Daneyko

The New Jerseys announced Saturday they will retire the numbers of former defencemen Scott Stevens and Ken Daneyko.

The New Jersey Devils will honour former captain Scott Stevens and fellow defenceman Ken Daneyko next month by retiring their numbers.

Stevens' No. 4 will be raised to the rafters Feb. 3 when the Devils face Carolina, and Daneyko's No. 3 will go up March 24 before a game against Boston.

The numbers will the first to be retired in franchise history.

Stevens captained the Devils to three Stanley Cup championships during his 13 seasons with the team. The Kitchener, Ont., native, who also played for St. Louis and Washington, appeared in 1,635 NHL games, racking up 196 goals, 712 assists and a plus-393 rating.

Daneyko, from Windsor, Ont., played his entire career with New Jersey. He appeared in a franchise-record 1,283 games, collecting 36 goals, 142 assists and 2,516 penalty minutes. Daneyko retired after New Jersey's third Stanley Cup win in 2003.
