The NHL suspended Phoenix Coyotes tough guy Daniel Carcillo for two games without pay on Friday for a fight during the match against the Chicago Blackhawks earlier this week.

Based on his $850,000 US salary, Carcillo will forfeit $9,610.

The incident occurred late in the second period of Phoenix's 4-1 loss in Chicago on Wednesday. Carcillo, who was on the Coyotes' bench, got involved with the Blackhawks' Ben Eager, who was on the ice.

Barring an appeal, Carcillo will miss Friday's game in Ottawa  and Saturday's contest in Montreal (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 7 p.m. ET).

Carcillo, 23, is in his third NHL season, all with Phoenix. In 57 games last season, he had 24 points (13 goals) while racking up an astounding 324 penalty minutes — 98 more than anyone else in the league.
