The Montreal Canadiens have signed free agent goaltender Robert Mayer to a three-year contract.

Terms of the deal announced Thursday were not released.

Mayer, 19, is one of six goaltenders in the Canadiens' training camp. He was invited at the team's rookie camp on a tryout basis and also participated in a development camp last July.

The Czech-born goalie has dual citizenship with Switzerland and represented that country at last year's world junior championship.

Mayer is also a member of the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He's played in two games this season (1-1-0) and has a .929 save percentage.

In 2007-08, Mayer played in 32 games with Saint John, posted a 16-11-0 record, a 3.77 goals-against average and a .877 save percentage, along with two shutouts.
