Canada to host consecutive world junior hockey tourneys

Canada was awarded the 2010 world junior hockey championships by default Friday when no other country bid on the event.

The official decision was made at an International Ice Hockey Federation meeting in Moscow.

The host city will be determined at a later date. Ottawa was selected last year by Hockey Canada to put on the 2009 edition of the tournament.

The nation's capital beat out Montreal, Toronto and a pair of joint bids — Calgary-Edmonton and Saskatoon-Regina.

The tournament will be held later this yearin the Czech Republic.

Canada was already tabbed for the 2012 championship, which will markits 10th time as host country.

The IIHF announced Thursday that a Canadian city will also be the siteof the inaugural women's world under-18 championship in January 2008.
