The Colorado Avalanche on Thursday announced that forward and leading scorer Ryan Smyth is done for the rest of the season after fracturing his right hand.

The 33-year-old suffered the injury in his team's 3-0 loss on Wednesday to Phoenix.

Smyth was the only player other than Milan Hejduk to have appeared in all 77 of Colorado's games this season. Smyth and Hejduk are tied with a team-best 26 goals, while Smyth leads the Avalanche with 59 points.

Smyth will finish the season at 310 goals and 350 assists in 920 games for his career, which began with nearly 11 seasons with Edmonton.

Colorado (31-44-2) have five games remaining in a season that will see them miss the playoffs for the second time in three seasons. The franchise had made the playoffs in the nine previous season after relocating from Quebec.
