Avalanche sign leading goal scorer Jones
The Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday announced a one-year deal for forward David Jones.
Jones was one of the most improved players in the NHL last season, leading the Avalanche with 27 goals and four game winners to go along with 18 assists. He was on pace for a 30-goal season but tailed off a bit at the end of the season, with four goals in the last 19 games.
Born in Guelph, Ont., the six-foot-two right wing scored 20 goals in 90 previous games spread over three seasons.
Financial details weren't released by the club. Jones earned $850,000 US last season and was due to be a restricted free agent on July 1.
Jones, who turns 27 in August, played in the B.C. junior league before attending Ivy League school Dartmouth. The Avalanche selected him in the ninth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
