Angels sign Fuentes to fill reliever spot
The Los Angeles Angels announced the signing of free agent closer Brian Fuentes on Wednesday to a two-year deal.
The Angels have the option to him Fuentes for the 2011 season.
Fuentes has spent the last seven seasons with the Colorado Rockies. The Merced, Calif., native has recorded at least 30 saves in three of the last four seasons. The lefty established a career-best 2.73 earned-run average the past season, posting a 1-5 record with 30 saves.
Fuentes was originally drafted by Seattle, but played just 10 career games with the Mariners before establishing himself in Denver.
The Angels signed the 33-year-old Fuentes after Francisco Rodriguez decided to leave the club and sign a lucrative deal with the New York Mets. Rodriguez established a new major league record last season with 62 saves.
