Heatley's agent, Stacey McAlpine said he had approached the Thrashers a couple of weeks ago requesting a change of environment for Heatley.

In February, Heatley was sentenced to three years probation for his role in a car accident in Sept.2003, which claimed the life of Atlanta team-mate Dan Snyder.

Heatley was speeding on a road in Atlanta when he lost control of his Ferrari and smashed into a fence.

The Heatley-Hossa deal came just hours after the Senators avoided salary arbitration with Hossa by signing the star forward to an $18-million US, three-year deal.

Both Heatley and Hossa are high-scoring right-wingers.
