Ryan Dinwiddie leads CFL weekly winners

Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie is 1-for-1, earning CFL honours as offensive player of the week after his very first regular season start.

Dinwiddie threw for 450 yards, the highest total in the league this year, to lead Winnipeg to a win over the Calgary Stampeders. The pivot completed 24 of 39 passes and found Romby Bryant in the end zone in the last minute as the Blue Bombers ended their winless ways this season.

Dinwiddie made his first CFL start in the Grey Cup last November.

Ian Smart and Paris Jackson of the B.C. Lions were also cited by the league on Wednesday.

Smart was named special teams player of the week after his 91-yard kick return spurred a comeback win over the Montreal Alouettes. Smart racked up 228 yards in kick and punt returns overall in the game.

In the same game, Jackson caught a 43-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that gave the Lions their first lead since early in the contest. Jackson caught five passes for 124 yards and was named top Canadian of the week for his efforts.

Defensive lineman Montez Murphy of the Edmonton Eskimos was named the CFL's best defensive player of the week.

Murphy recorded five tackles and two of Edmonton's eight sacks in a win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
