Jamie Martin waived by Jets

Quarterback Jamie Martin was waived Wednesday by the New York Jets.

Martin, 33, joined the Jets on August 26 following two seasons with the St. Louis Rams.

Last year, Martin completed 124-of-195 pass attempts for 1,216 yards and seven touchdowns with 10 interceptions in five games, including two starts.

But he failed to beat out Jets rookie Brooks Bollinger for the backup job at training camp.

Martin is a career 64.2 per cent passer (199-310) who has thrown for 2,141 yards, 14 TDs and 13 INTs in 25 games, including three starts, over five NFL seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Rams.

The Weber State grad originally signed with St. Louis as an undrafted free agent on May 3, 1993.

With Chad Penningston injured, Vinny Testaverde, who turns 40 on November 13, will start for the Jets in Thursday's season opener versus the Washington Redskins.

Pennington is sidelined a minimum 12 weeks after dislocating and fracturing his left wrist in New York's pre-season finale.
