Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins set a single-season major league record Friday night by stepping up to his 706th at-bat of the season.

While Rollins flied out in the third inning of the Phillies' game against the Washington Nationals, he broke the record set by Kansas City Royals' outfielder Willie Wilson in 1980.

Rollins, a three-time all-star, is enjoying the best season of his seven-year career.

He became the second player in team history to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases in the same season, and is the first major leaguer to post 200 hits, 15 triples, 25 homers and 25 steals.
