Cubs' grounds crew booed after tarp fiasco
Game called after infield unplayable
In the game between the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, it took what seemed like an overwhelmed grounds crew several minutes to cover the infield, leaving several parts of the infield soaked.
The Wrigley faithful began booing the grounds crew, then gave a playful “pull, pull” chant in the hope the working group could get its act together.
But the game was eventually called, a decision that handed the Cubs a 2-0 win over the Giants because the teams completed 4 ½ innings.
While the scene was comical to many, Giants manager Bruce Bochy wasn’t laughing after the game, telling reporters this type of situation “can't happen.”
The Giants filed an official protest to Major League Baseball following the game.
