With a 2-2 draw in the final match of the group stage against Sweden on Tuesday, the Canadian women's national soccer team finished third in Group F, behind Sweden and Japan.

With a record of 1-1-1, Canada clinched one of the two wild-card berths in the knockout round of eight.

On Friday afternoon, the quarter-finals begin with Canada facing a surprising team from Great Britain that finished atop Group E at 3-0-0.

The winning squad moves on for a shot at a medal.

The other quarter-final matches pit the United States against New Zealand, Sweden against France, and Brazil against Japan.

Also on Friday, track and field gets underway with the men's shot put. The shot put final takes place during Canada's soccer match and will feature Canada's Dylan Armstrong.
