On a roll

Roberto Cammarelle. The Italian took a step to claiming his first Olympic gold medal by outclassing Glazkov in the final of the 2007 world championship in Chicago.

On a slide

Islam Timurziev. Timurziev earned a hard fought victory over American Michael Hunter, but an injury forced the Russian to withdraw from his semifinal match against Cammarelle.

"It would have been interesting to see how he would've faired against Cammarelle," said Adrian Teodorescu, owner of Atlas Gym in Toronto, and also the former coach of ex-heavyweight and Olympic champion Lennox Lewis.

The X factor

Zhang Zhilei. China's top super heavyweight made an impact by reaching the semifinals at last year's worlds.

Under the radar

Robert Alfonso, Cuba. Alfonso qualified for the Olympics with a convincing 9-1 win over Hunter and is also the 2007 Pan Am Games champion.

After falling short in Athens, Cammarelle should get his long anticipated gold medal in Beijing if he continues to fight the way he did at the world championship last year. Aside from his victory over Glazkov, the Italian posted two TKOs and beat his two other opponents by a 44-18 margin.

Cammarelle is a terrific counter puncher who can land shots while appearing off balance.

"He should be able to win the gold medal," said Teodorescu.
