The Lunchbox Dilemma looks back on a common childhood experience for Asian Canadians, who’d hide, forget and discard the homemade lunches that their friends at school called “smelly” and “funny-looking.”

It’s a familiar story for many, one that embodies issues of identity and shame for not owning all aspects of their cultural identities.

This playful and nostalgic three-part series sheds light on the shared experience as a way of highlighting unconscious biases toward the Asian diaspora, while illustrating the identity and acceptance issues encountered by those who grew up in two different worlds.
