An earthquake forces Ana to choose: life in Canada, or politics in her Mexican hometown.
Ana Fernanda Hernández and her husband Kevin James Visser built a life between their two countries, Mexico and Canada. However, things changed in September 2017 when an earthquake devastated Ana Fernanda’s hometown of Jojutla and she stayed in Mexico to help with relief efforts.
Disappointed by the response of local and state authorities, Ana agreed to run for municipal government with her friend, activist Carlos Brito and, supported by local youth, they created an independent political party they called ReSURge.
While Jojutla is known as a pleasant agricultural center, it has also made headlines for mass graves, kidnappings, and narco-violence. SHOOK follows Ana Fernanda as she grapples with the challenge of fixing her broken town and piecing together her divided life.
