Why Dave Landreth of The Bros. Landreth recommends this 2013 novel that was recently adapted to film
Dave Landreth founded alternative country and folk music group The Bros. Landreth with his brother Joe in 2013. The Manitoba-based group, who won a 2015 Juno Award for group roots & traditional album of the year, released their anticipated sophomore record, titled '87, earlier this year.
Landreth is a fan of books and reading and is currently reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. The film adaptation, starring Nicole Kidman and Luke Wilson, premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.
"Right now I'm reading a book called The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. My wife has a book club and this was a book they recently read and loved. She then recommended the book to me.
"This book explores the forced maturity of kids who go through traumatic events and how it shapes their lives. It revolves around a kid named Theo who walks into a museum one day and something terrible happens. This event shapes the rest of his life right through to adulthood.
The Goldfinch explores the push and pull of those effects on his life.- Dave Landreth
"The Goldfinch explores the push and pull of those effects on his life. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants a story to grab their attention from the first page right through the last page without sacrificing any substance. It's well-written. The characters are well-developed and the themes are super interesting."
