We've had a total of 1441 people come through the MY Phoenix.- Dr. Simon Bryant, on rescuing migrants on MSF rescue vessel
MSF doctors Simon Bryant and Ema Rijinierse delight in witnessing Eritrean migrants, seeing land for the first time in days.
The migrants are on board the MY Phoenix, a rescue vessel run by Medecins Sans Frontiers and a European charity, Migrant Offshore Aid Station. They were rescued from the Mediterranean, a journey that's claimed the lives of more than 1700 migrants since the start of the year.
Canadian doctor Simon Bryant, and colleague Erna Rijnierse are both doctors working with MSF on the MY Phoenix rescue ship in the Mediterranean. We reached them in Malta.
