There are many Christmas traditions that would likely never survive if they were suddenly introduced now.  Would anyone neck under a parasitic vine if we didn't already have mistletoe? Would anyone bother to write a song about partridges and pear trees -- would anyone sing its chorus 12 Times?  And don't we love fruits and cakes enough by themselves to force them unnaturally together for  ----  fruitcake?

To find out more about the way they used to be made - and the history of the fruitcake, We reached Pamela Foster.  She's a culinary historian who writes about British Food history on her blog ' Downton Abbey Cooks' and she was in Burlington. 

Coming up New Years Eve,  we'll reprise our interview with Lady Carnarvon. She's lives in Highclere castle, the real -life building where Downton Abbey is filmed.
