Season 20: Episode 17

Imagine a little bracelet you could wear every day. On it is inscribed: WWPD?  What Would Plato Do?  It's not as wacky as it sounds. The great philosopher would have a lot to say about how to live right now.

Philosophers call it a thought experiment: you imagine a scenario and try to deduce how it might play out in real life.

Here's one for you: the great Plato embarks on a twenty-first-century book tour. He tangles with an obnoxious TV pundit, charms a live audience at the 'Y', and bowls over the entire staff at Google headquarters.

What would he make of us? What would Plato conclude about how we live?

Plato returns to answer these questions thanks to the lively mind of philosopher Rebecca Newberger Goldstein.

Goldstein's Plato doles out some very clear advice on modern life: how to raise a child, how to think about money, who should go into politics - and who should not.

Rebecca Newberger Goldstein's book is called  Plato at the Googleplex:  Why Philosophy Won't Go Away.
