Last month at a concert in Tokyo, Britney Spears was dancing to her hit song "Slave 4 U" when her microphone got tangled in her hair. Footage shows Spears struggling with the headset, but her vocals were completely unaffected.

Spears has denied lip-syncing at her concerts and is far from the only pop act to be accused of it. So we decided to ask pop culture expert Rich Juzwiak, who recently wrote an article about lip-syncing for Jezebel about the history of lip-syncing to find out more about the truth behind this practice. Surprisingly, we found out it has been going on longer than you may think.
