When a virus kills everyone over 21 in the small town of Pretty Lake, the survivors are forced to grow up fast. (Between/Netflix)

Canadian director Michael McGowan joins Shad to discuss his Netflix science fiction survival drama Between, which imagines a world in which everyone over the age of 21 has been wiped out by disease.

McGowan describes his lead characters as "old enough to assume responsibility [but] young enough to screw it up". He reflects on the challenges of surviving a harsh world as young, inexperienced person — and as a Canadian show.
