The 42nd Toronto International Film Festival announced its first round of films at a press conference this morning in Toronto, which included the premiere of the Tragically Hip's concert documentary, Long Time Running.

"You want titles, and we've got titles," TIFF creative director Cameron Bailey told reporters before announcing that the festival was going to be leaner this year. "We tried to offer a tighter selection in order to help all the people attending take it in," he said.

TIFF announced pictures for the gala and special presentation lineups, which included 13 world premieres and directorial debuts from the likes of Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and motion capture master Andy Serkis (Breathe).

Actors with films in Toronto this year so far include Idris Elba, Kate Winslet, Halle Berry, Steve Carell, Emma Stone, Jake Gyllenhaal, Matt Damon, Octavia Spencer, Daniel Craig, Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston and Elisabeth Moss, among others. Directors included Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Alexander Payne, Darren Aronofsky and Guillermo del Toro, the Mexican auteur director/Toronto resident who will premiere his new horror film, The Shape of Water.

C'est la Vie!, directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano (The Intouchables), which depicts a wedding as seen through the eyes of all in attendance, will close the festival.

"Let's face it, it's one of the biggest festival in the world," said TIFF CEO and director Piers Handling. "It's impossible to see everything."
