Tanika Charles performs live in studio q from her debut album Soul Run and shares her love of Prince with a song and a story.

It was in an intimate nightclub that Charles saw Prince perform five songs — and by intimate, she says she could've practically reached out and touched him.

As for her upcoming album, it's based on a true story. Charles was living on a farm in Alberta with a man she didn't love, until one day she got in his truck and took off for Toronto. She says it took her a while to adjust to all the changes in her life but after a few years she was able to channel it into her art.

What followed is a powerful debut album, Soul Run.
