Ian Hanomansing has been announced as the interim host of Cross Country Checkup for the 2020-2021 season — the 55th year of Canada's only national call-in show.

Hanomansing will begin his stint as Checkup host Sept. 6, filling in for Duncan McCue who announced in June that he would take an eight-month hiatus from the program to join four other journalists for Massey College's William Southam Journalism Fellowship.

"I love live, unscripted broadcasting and looking forward to playing a role in this weekly national conversation," Hanomansing tweeted Thursday.

He will continue in his role as host of The National on Friday and Sunday evenings, and host Checkup live from Vancouver.
