Two families take an unconventional approach to home ownership

Four adults joined forces in order to purchase their first home and beat the tough real estate market together.

Lindsey White, her wife Bronwyn Whyte and their son Nyjah share a semi-detached home in Toronto's east end with Mandy Wintink, her husband Mike Lovas and their son Ashar.

The couples purchased their first home last spring, opting for a joint home ownership and splitting their mortgage.

While the say this shared living situation isn't for everyone, they are seeing the benefits—both financial and personal—to communal living.

Their secret to making it last? Communication. So far so good.
