Mirkka Koivusalo is a scientist-turned-dog trainer who is now combining her interests into one research project on biomedical scent detection.

She's trying to determine whether dogs can discriminate between specific pathogens through special training. The end goal of the project is to find the right breed of dogs that could become canine lab assistants.
