The strategy, however, doesn't seem to be working, and the Garratt family thinks it's time the federal government takes a tougher, more vocal stance with Beijing.
But the Prime Minister's Office announced yesterday that Stephen Harper will skip the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Beijing next month so he can attend Remembrance Day ceremonies here in Canada, after the death of two Canadian soldiers last week.
Mr. Harper may also pull out of high-level bilateral talks in China scheduled for next week. As It Happens host Carol Off speaks to The Garrats' son, Simeon, about the case.
