Former Minister of Transport Benoit Bouchard on Lac-Mégantic

The Transportation and Safety Board has been on the scene since the early hours of the derailment in Lac-Megantic, trying to understand exactly what happened. The Sureté du Québec calls it a crime scene, and has sealed the zone to allow for an investigation.

The federal government is responsible for ensuring railway safety across the country, and has not dealt with an accident of this nature and magnitude in decades.

Benoît Bouchard has been following this closely. He is a former Minister of Transport and the former Chair of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
