Beef and diary producers divided on re-launching local slaughterhouse

A new co-operative of Quebec beef and dairy producers is looking for support to inject millions to re-open a slaughterhouse near Drummondville. The Colbex-Levinoff plant closed in May 2012. It was the only major cull cattle abattoir in Eastern Canada.

Diary farmer Jason Erskine hopes to see Colbex-Levinoff open its doors again soon. Rawdon Farmer Steven Neveu is more wary about what this means, and has many questions around the pros and cons of re-launching it.
