Eastern Townships: May 2013 Archives

Connecting youth with their farming roots

This year marks the 100th anniversary of 4H clubs in Canada. Youth in farming communities around Richmond in the Eastern Townships will gather this weekend to show off their skills, from raising livestock to out-of-this world gardens. Our Sarah Rogers stopped by to chat with the local chapter's president, 16-year-old Andrew Boersen.

High school students raise trout to help promote ecological diversity

Sarah_Rogers_cbc_trout_release.jpgStudents at Richmond regional high school are lending a helping hand to the St. Francis river.

Students in the school's pre-work program are helping to clean up and beautify a stretch of river that's close to home with fish.

Our Sarah Rogers met the students along the riverbank in Richmond, where they were unloading bags filled with 200 baby speckled trout.

Township banjos selling all over the world

Carl Arcand_CBC_bySarahRogers.JPGCarl Arcand lives and works in the tiny village of Ulverton in the Eastern Townships. When he got bored of playing the guitar, he set his sights on another stringed instrument: the banjo. Our Sarah Rogers went to Ulverton to see his collection and what he does with them. We think he just may be Quebec's only banjo maker.
