Northern Futures: A Silent World

Inukjuak River.JPGAs part of the CBC series 8th Fire, we're taking a look at the future of Quebec's 14 Inuit communities, in the northern region of Nunavik.

Inukjuak is a village of just over 1200 people, on the James Bay coast. Local officials are proposing to build a hydro dam - just big enough to power the town itself. The village held a referendum on the project: 71 per cent turnout, more than 80 per cent in favour.

Still there are some who worry that a hydro dam is just a taste of things to come, as the Quebec government turns its attention to developing natural resources under its Plan Nord.

Quebec AM's Ainslie MacLellan has this short documentary, A Silent World.
