Pope Benedict XVI to resign

Pope Benedict XVI's announcement that he will resign at the end of the month is sparking surprise throughout the Catholic community. Benedict says his health is deteriorating and he is unable to carry out his duties. Benedict is the first pope to resign in nearly 600 years.
